GEAR GUIDE
Packing is undoubtedly a pain and each type of trip requires its own unique gear. Here are some of our favorite items to pack for three types of trips: An adventure trip, a beach trip, and a safari.
ADVENTURE
On an adventure travel trip, you often are away from you base, whether it’s a hotel or a tent, for long periods. For that reason a backpack, a cap, external power for your devices, and a great water bottle are key. If you’re like me and fear a bout of getting hangry, think ahead and pack snacks. Since the weather can change on a dime, layers, and rain gear are especially important. Lastly, we’re always doin’ it for the insta, so get the best pics, a GoPro could assist. If you’re traveling alone or just as a couple and don’t have a guide, think about looking like the ultimate tourist and grab a selfie stick if you really don’t want to miss the shot!

BEACH
Who doesn’t love the beach? While it’s the most relaxing type of trip, you still have to worry about the sun. Don’t forget your cap, a pouch for your sunscreen, lip balm with SPF, and Sea-bands which I swear work for seasickness. I don’t leave home without them if I’m going anywhere near the water. You never know when you’re going to need them. A guilty pleasure has always been the Evian Spray which is a perfect refreshing break when it just gets too hot to handle. A fun way to capture images underwater is to carry a waterproof phone pouch. After all the activity, it’s always nice to settle in to a beach read and I love keeping my bag light by ditching the hard cover and going digital with an e-reader. If you think you’re going to somewhere with rocky beaches, a water shoe will change your life.

SAFARI
A Safari is one of the most luxurious ways to travel because so many things are already taken care of. There isn’t a lot of planning once you’re there and meals are at set times. But, that doesn’t mean you don’t need specialized gear. Most trips require soft-sided luggage for the small flights between camps. Binoculars are essential to see the game up close and personal. While many outfitters will provide you with water, it can’t hurt to bring your own bottle. A cap and bug repellent will protect you when the climate becomes harsh and it’s best not to rely on your phone camera as you’ll want to zoom in on animals as best as possible. Don’t forget your day pack as you’ll be traveling most of the day outside the camps, and a portable charger is essential if you want to have device battery throughout the day!
